There are 62 milk collecting Jeeva farmers’ societies and collection centers in Idukki and Ernakulam Districts. Of which 37 are linked to Central Organization, and the rest function as independent societies. The former ones are administered by an elected Executive Body, comprising of not less than seven members. President of each society is elected by the Executive Body, where as the Secretary / Milk Tester is appointed by the society. Milk is daily collected from farmers, after having been ensured of quality parameters and then despatched to the Pasteurisation plant in Pareekanni. Payment of milk bought is distributed thrice in a month to farmers based on the quality (Fat/SNF values) and quantity supplied by the individuals. In addition, the society takes responsibility for Bank loan to farmers, distribution of cattle feed, incentives received from the Central Organization, annual bonus etc.

The farmer members elect the Executive Body at the Annual General Body meeting. The local Parish Priest is normally the Patron of the society, who coordinates the society’s activities as is required. The Central Organization acts as an advisory body in the initial formation of the Societies, imparting training on quality testing of milk, proper accounting and other administrative activities. The Central Society periodically arranges training programs for farmers in scientific cattle rearing and hygienic collection of milk. It also aims at the welfare and socio-economic development of the farmers and nurturing leadership quality among them.
